It is the closest masjid to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Yes! Masjid Al-Rahman is open to all visitors, regardless of religion or background. Come see a prayer, ask questions, or just have some tea with us. ### What should I wear when I visit? Loose, modest clothing that covers the arms and legs is ideal. Women usually cover their hair in the prayer hall, so bring a scarf if you have one. Everyone removes their shoes before stepping onto the prayer carpet. ### Where is the masjid, and how do I get there? We’re at 1320 Hull Street, Richmond, VA 23224, just across the James River from downtown and minutes from VCU. Our Qur’an & Hadith reading after Maghrib, Jumu’ah, and community events are open to everyone. You don’t need to sign up; just come. ### What are the prayer times at Masjid Al-Rahman? Prayer times change daily with the sun. Today’s adhan and iqamah times are always on the home page, calculated live for our exact location. The prayer timetable lists every day’s adhan and iqamah for the year. ### When is Jumu’ah (Friday prayer)? Jumu’ah is every Friday. The khutbah begins at 1:30 PM. Please come a few minutes early. You can add it to your calendar from the prayer section. ### How are the prayer times calculated? We use the ISNA method (Fajr and Isha at 15°, standard Asr), calculated for the masjid’s coordinates. The iqamah (when the congregation actually starts) is set by the masjid and shown next to each adhan on the prayer board. ### Which direction is the qibla? From Richmond, the qibla is about 56° clockwise from true north, roughly northeast. On your phone you can use the live compass in the prayer section. ### What services does Masjid Al-Rahman offer? The masjid runs entirely on community support. Online giving is coming soon, in shā’ Allāh. Until then you can give in person after any prayer, or volunteer your time.
